At Oxford International College, this changing landscape is influencing not only what students learn, but how they learn it.

The Oxford-based independent college has been selected as a finalist in the ISA Awards 2026 for the Award for Future Readiness, which recognises schools taking forward-looking approaches to preparing pupils for life beyond school.

The category considers areas including digital literacy, creativity, critical thinking, emerging industries, STEAM education and real-world problem-solving.

OIC's approach combines rigorous academics with opportunities for students to connect knowledge across disciplines.

Its +£120,000 Innovation Lab brings together areas including Physics and Computer Science, with facilities incorporating robotics, 3D printing, AI-enabled computing and high-performance workstations.

Students are also encouraged to apply their knowledge independently. Projects highlighted by the College include an AI-assisted TMUA practice platform created by a student and an innovative lithium battery recycling solution which helped another student secure selection for the MIT Student Programme in collaboration with Nord Anglia Education.

Research and academic enrichment also form part of the picture. More than 120 students participate in Olympiads, research projects or university competitions, while three Year 13 students have had research papers shortlisted for or published during the academic year cited in OIC's award submission.

The approach is complemented by personalised Global Strategic Pathways, designed to connect students' academic programmes, enrichment and university preparation with their longer-term ambitions.

For international families considering a British boarding education, the recognition highlights a model in which strong academic outcomes sit alongside preparation for the skills, technologies and challenges students are likely to encounter beyond school.

OIC describes its ambition simply: not only preparing students for the future, but preparing them to define it.
