Our son attended SIS for 3 years as a boarding student graduating in May 2026 from the IB program. He previously attended a German gymnasium. Our experience with SIS was outstanding. The academics of the IB program were excellent. The support offered academically and personally was readily available and outstanding. Our son made a number of good friends at the school and greatly enjoyed his time there. Our son as well as most of his friends were accepted at highly competitive universities and colleges primarily in the US or the UK. The administration and teachers were readily available, keeping us informed of academic progress and responding very quickly and professionally to any concerns we had.

Our family’s experience with Sotogrande International School has become increasingly concerning over the past few years. While the school remains acceptable in some areas, major changes have significantly affected its atmosphere and quality.
The new head of school is a strict administrator following Inspired’s rules, but she does not seem to prioritise the wellbeing of the students. The personal warmth and presence that the previous headmaster brought to the school are now largely absent, and this has changed the environment considerably.
There has been a noticeable shift in the student body. There are now more Russian students, and Russian has become effectively a third language at the school. While cultural diversity is valuable, this change has coincided with a rise in serious behavioural issues, including vaping, drug-related activity, bullying, and coercion among students.... read full review

I'm sure for-profit schools can work, but this one is a textbook example of 'everything that can go wrong' if a school starts prioritising money over the kids. I fell for the marketing without realising their advertised IB scores are at the cost of only allowing half the kids to go on to IB while the rest are not offered any alternative that can get them into university (which I guess the school could then be ranked on). I moved my daughter to a different school after a year as she hated it - turned out there were lots of ex SIS kids at the school who were all jokingly referred to as the 'SIS refugees' by the other kids (not in a mean way, more just an observation of the sheer numbers fleeing the school). Avoid - class sizes huge, atmosphere awful, all the good teachers fleeing the school too.

Had kids attend there for over 10 years, The school was wonderful. It advertised itself as 'proudly non selective' and when I initially asked about the entry requirements the response was 'everyone is welcome'. The headmaster was excellent, very personable and had time for everyone.
Then the school was taken over by a for profit corporation named Inspired.
Out went the Headmaster and in came a 'CEO'. Kids becane profitability units, and the school embarked on introducing selection, both at entry, and, more importantly at age 16. A significant proportion of 16 year-olds are now no longer offered to continue with the IB program. The school naturally states 'not in best interests of all students to continue with IB', reality is the school is using selection to only allow the higher performing students to continue to IB so that it can advertise higher IB scores.
But worse is that... read full review
