Early childhood education plays a crucial role in shaping confidence, curiosity and a love of learning. At Prague British International School (PBIS), our Early Years programme provides a safe, nurturing environment where children begin their educational journey with joy and confidence.

A Play‑Based Approach

For the youngest students at PBIS, play is the central driver of learning. Children develop early literacy, mathematical thinking, social understanding and problem‑solving skills through open-ended building, reading, and talking. Because play feels natural and enjoyable, children relax quickly and feel proud of their discoveries.
Teachers provide gentle guidance while allowing children the freedom to experiment and explore their own ideas. This balance helps children trust their thinking and feel capable in their learning.

A School Where Children Feel Safe, Known and Supported

Our teachers take time to build strong relationships with every child. They greet every child by name, follow predictable routines and create calm spaces where children feel comfortable to settle in at their own pace.  These small, thoughtful interactions help children feel seen and understood.

When children feel secure, they are far more willing to explore, form friendships and approach new experiences with confidence. This sense of belonging is at the heart of our Early Years philosophy.

Environment Designed to Influence Growth

Our classrooms are designed to feel comfortable, calm and uncluttered. Children find cosy spots to rest, open spaces to explore creatively and natural materials that spark curiosity in gentle ways. Outdoors, they have freedom to run, climb and connect with nature. These experiences support emotional regulation, fine and gross motor development and a daily sense of joy. Families can feel confident that every space is planned with care, safety and early development in mind.

Parents As Partners

Families are an essential part of our Early Years community. Stay and play sessions, workshops, open mornings and regular communication help parents understand how play‑based learning supports childhood development. Many families describe the community as open, friendly and reassuring from day one.

This strong partnership supports each child’s smooth transition into school life and helps them thrive socially, emotionally and academically.

International Community Full of Languages

With families from more than sixty nationalities, PBIS offers a rich linguistic setting. English is the shared language of communication and appears naturally through stories, songs and play. At the same time, children’s home languages are welcomed and celebrated.

Teachers model warm and clear communication, encouraging children to speak, take turns and share their ideas. As a result, children develop confidence in expressive language while maintaining pride in their cultural identity.

A Confident Start For Growth

With the British Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework guiding our approach, and PBIS’s warm international atmosphere, our children build key foundations in communication, social understanding, physical development and early inquiry skills. They leave the Early Years feeling confident, capable and well prepared for the next stage of their education because their first school experiences were gentle, joyful and full of belonging.
