In my experience, The British School of Vilnius is by far the worst international school I have worked at. I found the professional culture to be deeply disappointing. Too many staff members appeared to lack the respect, empathy, and professionalism that should be expected in an educational environment. If adults within the school fail to model positive social values, it becomes difficult to expect students to consistently demonstrate those same values.

The management is among the weakest I have encountered in my career. In my view, the staff culture reflects the quality of the leadership. Poor leadership has created an environment where accountability, collaboration, and professional standards seem to be lacking.

I was also concerned by what I perceived to be inconsistent teaching standards. Some teachers did not appear to have the knowledge or skills expected of qualified professionals, which inevitably affects the quality of education students receive.

The SEN department was particularly disappointing. Rather than actively supporting students with special educational needs or those acquiring English as an additional language, I often felt that support was superficial rather than effective. It was concerning to see students who had attended the school for several years still struggling to communicate confidently in English.

Class organisation also raised concerns. Students with widely differing ability levels are placed together, and the school does not appear to make sufficient use of ability grouping where it could benefit learning. Instead of prioritising investment in teaching and academic support, the school seemed more focused on expensive facilities, such as building a swimming pool.

Overall, I found the school to prioritise its image and financial interests over educational quality. There also appeared to be a culture of entitlement among some students from very wealthy families, with insufficient effort made to address attitudes or behaviour.

Based on my personal experience, I would not recommend The British School of Vilnius to prospective staff members or families seeking a high-quality international education.
