Qualities and characteristics best defining the school

Avenues: The World School is an accredited, independent private N-12 school with a global view that opened its first campus in the fall of 2012 in New York City. We will open our São Paulo campus in August of 2018. Eventually, Avenues will bring together 35,000 students and 3,000 faculty through a number of traditional and virtual modalities across the world.

Our Nursery through 12th grade students participate in a full-day immersion program, spending around 65% of the day speaking English and the other 35% in Portuguese.

What is a global or world school? Think of Avenues as one school with many campuses across the world. It will not be a collection of different schools all pursuing different educational strategies, but rather one highly-integrated “learning community,” connected and supported by a common vision, shared curriculum, collective faculty professional development, the wonders of modern technology and a highly talented headquarters team located in New York City.

Culture is by definition the result of an organization’s collective behaviors. Consequently, Avenues has defined the behaviors it values most. This has and will continue to allow the organization to give and receive honest feedback while helping it achieve its mission. The behaviors Avenues determined it values most are: Collaborative, Learning, Accountable, Resourceful, Adaptive and Courageous.

Teaching approach of the school

Avenues classrooms are student-centric, collaborative, hands-on and engaging spaces that use inquiry and technology to foster student learning. Students and teachers showcase multimedia projects throughout the campus as both a reflection of the innovation occurring every day and as further inspiration for future ideation.

Our curriculum incorporates the best ideas from the fields of technology, ergonomics and environmental design. A flexible learning environment includes open spaces for collaboration and ample technology and support with the intention to constantly spur innovation for students and teachers alike.

Avenues students are creators of their own content and leaders of their own learning.
