The Grange Institution (TGI) has clinched the Gold Award for Sustainable School of the Year at the HoneyKids Asia Singapore Education Awards 2025. This marks the fifth consecutive year the school has been recognized for its outstanding contributions to environmental education and sustainable practices.

Earlier in March 2025, The Grange was honoured with an invitation from UNESCO to participate in the global launch of World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development 2025 at its headquarters in Paris. As one of only two international schools selected for this event, The Grange stood alongside global thought leaders, reinforcing its dedication to Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4): Quality Education.

The school’s approach to sustainability goes beyond theory. Students are actively engaged in hands-on initiatives that address real-world challenges. One notable project involved a student-led partnership with a sister school in Cambodia to design and implement a water filtration system for a rural community.

In other regions such as Sumatra and Zambia, the “Grow with The Grange” campaign has resulted in the planting of over 150 trees, each named after a student, symbolizing personal commitment to environmental stewardship. The tree-planting efforts abroad have also had measurable impact — offsetting approximately 3.5 tons of carbon dioxide, mitigating soil erosion in coastal areas, and fostering community involvement.

On campus, their Green Granger Initiative has transformed the school grounds into a vibrant biodiversity sanctuary, home to more than 100 documented species of flora and fauna. Students participate in urban farming, ecological data collection, and scientific experimentation across five designated zones, integrating sustainability into their daily learning experiences.

Even the youngest learners at The Grange are making their mark. Through participation in the Go Green SG initiative, they contributed to the SG60 collaborative mural crafted from recycled toys. This massive artwork, now featured in the Singapore Book of Records, serves as a powerful lesson in environmental responsibility and collective action.

The mural, measuring an impressive 13.6 meters in width and 2.1 meters in height, is currently on display at Promenade MRT Station, showcasing the creativity and commitment of The Grange’s students to thousands of commuters daily.

This latest Gold Award is a testament to The Grange Institution’s belief that sustainability is not merely a subject to be taught — it is a way of life embraced by the entire school community.
