Teaching approach of the school |
All our programs from Kindergarten to High school are approved by the French National Ministry of Education. The course we offer from 2 to 18 years old is a plurilingual, innovative teaching, in order to respond effectively to the challenges of the 21st century. The first step of this school adventure is kindergarten. It is an awakening journey which allows the child from 2 to 6 years to open up, understand and act in the world. From 8.30 a.m. to 15.30 p.m., he will be able to settle in a daily, multilingual and multicultural reality. He will learn 3 languages, first French and English at a rate of 50% for one, 50% for the other within the framework of the official French programs, and Italian. After 3 years, it is already comfortably installed in an attentive ear to others and in this linguistic reality, that he will be able to start the preparatory course. Moreover, acting in the world means acting with others. This is where the first classroom rituals take place, the first signs of socialization. The canteen allows on-site catering, and so the awakening of tastes as the awakening to the other constitute the highlight of 3 years of initial training which will continue in the elementary course. After 3 years of awakening in contact with our mother tongue teachers, whatever the language taught, from Monday to Friday students from 6 years old enter the Elementary cycle: journey of discovery. Firstly, the pupil will continue to open up to plurilingual realities, this is the moment when what he heard and saw for 3 years will find an echo in the syntax, the rigor of the oral and the more theoretical aspects of knowledge. Secondly, He’s gonna start engaging and get involved in the school environment in which he operates: inside and outside the classroom. The school park is not just a simple playground it is also a learning ground where the ecological reality with the educational garden, soon the farm that will live in our spaces, is already the opportunity to prepare for a world reality that he must know and like. The first exams come. European language certifications prepared from cycle 3, from CM1, guide the linguistic path. We are preparing for the college where we are already building what we can call a personal journey. The College, 4 years of consolidation, from 11 to 14 years old, from the 6ème to the 3ème, where the student prepares concretely the national exams. The National Diploma of the Brevet at the end of the 3ème is a deadline for which we prepare them from the 6ème. European certifications in computer science come to determine a student's ability to handle a tool that is part of his intellectual daily life but also the first answers he gives to the challenges that await him in his high school career. The College is also the time to thrive more in one’s relationship to others and to the world: sporting events between schools, the network of the Agency for French Education Abroad (AEFE) make it possible to exchange very easily and durably with students from all over the world. It’s the arrival of the first boarding students, sometimes international students, who from the 6ème join our rooms either for the week or for the weekend included. The College makes it possible to use the linguistic knowledge acquired during the years spent during the consolidation cycle. Mathematics, sciences, are practiced in English from the 3ème, with an opening on the High school. It’s time to innovate in our classroom practices. From the start of the new academic year, our students will no longer be in class on Friday afternoon. It’s time to get out of class and mix the classes, so that each student can end the week in a fulfilling way and that the reduced constraints may give way to freedom to act for each other, with each other to get to know each other better. After 4 years of consolidation that constitutes the college, comes the High school cycle. Three years of action and guidance. The choices that the student will make will be decisive for his student career. The Seconde class is a preparatory class for a first bifurcation between two courses: the French course European Section 1ère-terminale, or the International Baccalaureate course the “Diploma Program”, for which we have been accredited since 2020 and which will open in September 2021. The Seconde, at the age of 14-15, is the base in which the solid and lasting acquisition of a good methodology is built in French and in English. Likewise, the student must be curious and involved, the documentary research must be a priority for the acquisition of autonomy in knowledge. Engaged in the service of others in collective and individual actions for which he will give of his time and his person to better receive. Once graduated, and after being accompanied by our educational, management and school life teams, the student joins a series of international, French, English courses according to the chosen paths and the discernment made, and this since 60 years. Everyone always knew how to find his place and we are working to maintain this course, to strengthen it and to make it ever more fulfilling. Our boarding students, who in 2nde, 1ère or Terminale year can benefit from a stable and adapted structure, or with more patience, time, collaboration, permanently install the tools they will need in their studies and in their future life. Studying in Saint-Dominique is not simply receiving an education, it is entering into a global educational process. You who are about to join us, do not think that coming from a different school system, that being in a physical or intellectual condition that you consider different from the norm would prevent you from coming to us. Not at all. Each year, and for 60 years, we welcome families of all conditions, of all nationalities and of all religions, in a universe unified by the common values that we share. If school uniforms are the visible sign of this, the invisible realities that it transmits are the most important for us, those with which we will, together, build a better future for your children and thus lay the foundations of a world itself became better.
