Brief description of entry evaluation required

As an international school, the major instruction language of CIS is English. The academic English level of the applicant is a determining factor, though other factors such as behavior, work ethic, past academic achievement and the different expectations in different division levels also play a role in the decision to accept a student or not.

The Admissions Test will be conducted by School leadership in consult with academic team members with assistance of Admissions Office.

Early Years Education (Ages 2-4): We welcome students with various levels of English proficiency. Assessment at this level is conducted in an informal and relaxing setting, including simple activities with applicant and conversations with applicant’s family. We also take into account the child's behavior and attitude during the assessment.

Elementary (Ages 5-11): We expect students to have a basic command of English to communicate with teachers. Assessment will be divided into two parts: A face to face interview, and a written test that bases on CAT Math and English (Canadian Achievement Test). We also consider the child's social skills and behavior.

Secondary (Ages 12-17): We expect students to have a proper academic English level that could support his/her learning in Junior High and High School under the rigorous Alberta (Canada) curriculum. Assessment will be divided into three parts: A face to face interview, a written tests that bases on CAT Math and English (Canadian Achievement Test) and an English Placement Test that will give the school more comprehensive understanding to support the applicant in his/her personal academic journey.
