Qualities and characteristics best defining the school

ISL Qatar is one of two schools opened under the Outstanding Schools Initiative started by Her Highness Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al Missned and implemented by the Supreme Education Council. ISL Qatar is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School authorised to offer the Primary Years, Middle Years (MYP) and Diploma Programmes. The school provides a rigorous inquiry-based and integrated curriculum, which promotes the values of international mindedness and multicultural understanding.

- Teachers know students well as individuals.
- Each child is welcomed into the classroom in their own language.
- English classes and a variety of social events are available for parents.
- All cultures are celebrated and nurtured in a lively international community.

The mother tongue and foreign languages, small class sizes and academic provision within a positive learning environment have been recognized in recent IB reports and visits. ISL Qatar is a friendly school that is small enough to ensure each child is a respected individual, yet large enough to support a vibrant and active international community.

Teaching approach of the school

ISL Qatar is accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEAS&C) and authorised by the International Baccalaureate (IB) Organisation to offer the Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma Programmes. These programmes and accreditations fulfil the School’s vision of combining intellectual rigour and high academic standards with a strong emphasis on the ideals of international understanding and responsible citizenship.

The Primary Years Programme is a curriculum framework for children Early Childhood through grade 5. It is transdisciplinary, where concepts are explored to support and structure children's inquiries and where 'big ideas' with global significance can be uncovered. Students are provided with learning experiences that are engaging, relevant, challenging and significant. They are given opportunities to ask questions, explore and interact with the environment and make sense of the world around them. Learning experiences are differentiated to meet the needs of a range of abilities and learning styles. Students are empowered to value and take responsibility for their learning. ISL Qatar promotes international mindedness across the whole school community and strives to develop students who are active inquirers and life-long learners.

The IB Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) offers a rigorous and challenging framework of academic study and life-skills appropriate for 11 to 16 year olds. It is designed to serve the particular needs of adolescents in an international framework. Emphasis is placed on developing critical and creative thinking skills, which are going to be highly valued in the future.
