I attended St. George’s Grammar School from 2007 to 2019 — an unforgettable experience unlike any other, one I know can never be relived. Sadly, I do feel that the school’s standards have declined since then. With the steady loss of experienced teachers year after year, the quality of education at the school — especially in the high school — has declined noticeably. While the primary school remains a beautiful and strong foundation, the high school is deteriorating at an alarming rate. It’s heartbreaking to watch such a wonderful institution slip away.

I was at the school as a boarder and we travelled into Cape Town to the school behind the cathedral. I was an English immigrant but I enjoyed life and the sports the school had to offer. I was there in 1972 after being at Monterrey. I made friends and enjoyed my time at St. George's.

I was at SGGS from 1968 (Std 1 or Grade 3) to 1975 (Std 8 or Grade 10) and a border from 1969 to 1975. It was very difficult at first as I was only 8. But, as time went by and with care from Mrs Diane Hodge (wife of then preparatory school head master Mr Kit Hodge), I settled and really bloomed from 1971 onwards. Not sure if the school thought so but I did. Unfortunately my dad removed me from the school at the end of Std 8. I was on the cusp of real success but alas... I have nothing but good memories and a foundation of sound ethics and integrity built by the school and its staff. I will always be grateful...Thank you
