BSB is a COBIS-accreditted (most recent inspection 2025) top-tier international school with an excellent programme: the oldest British school in the city.
Its range of IGCSE/IB subjects and world class facilities (sports dome, tennis/basketball courts, fields, playgrounds, Science labs, 300-seat theater) allows it to compete with the best in Asia. While Nord Anglia initiatives like the Juilliard Programme and MIT competitions are significant, the subjects offered in the secondary school are the most crucial factor in its success. Further, many of my top performing peers have been at the school for 4-6+ years, which shows the Primary school's high standards.
Although COVID caused a drop in standards across international schools worldwide, BSB has been actively navigating its negative impacts. For the past two consecutive years, the school has recruited exceptional teachers with impressive qualifications and experience, returning to its pre-COVID practice of hiring directly from the UK, Europe, and greater Asia.
Established by the British Embassy in 2003 as part of the King's Schools group, it established the British Schools Foundation. The school was one of several "The British School of" schools in China that were eventually shifted to Nord Anglia Education. While NAE's innovative programs are a focus, BSB does its best to embrace its British roots and focus on academic excellence despite there not being many British students in the city anymore (the number is increasing though).
As an inclusive school, BSB admits students of all nationalities, but as a real international school, it's limited to foreign/regional students. The number of international/English native-speaking students is now slowly increasing. One year, my class had students from over 10 countries.
The Performing Arts program is amazing, with Music, Drama, and Dance being an integral part of school life. The annual secondary musical fills the theater, and there are frequent soirees, lunchtime performances, and opportunities for students to join bands.
BSB is also one of the top four sporting schools in the city and is a member of ACAMIS and ISAC. Students regularly travel to other cities (Shenzhen, Dalian and Hong Kong last year) for a variety of sports, including swimming, and many teams have recently won first or second place. While the school is no longer involved in FOBISIA events, this is due to its geographical location, as many other city schools have also opted out.
The school offers mathematics and STEM and Business Management competitions as an ASDAN Exam Centre. For a low fee, students can be prepared and trained by the Maths department in free CCA clubs. BSB, as a British school, offers UKMT competitions, Maths Kangaroo, AMC via the agency ASDAN. MUN conferences are also hosted yearly: the team also goes to other cities.
The educational offer is exceptional and the inclusive community is amazing.

Both of my sons have been with BSB for 6 years. They did well at school, made many friends, like their teachers and are happy to go to school every morning.
