Welcome to the British School of Bali!
At BSB our mission is to provide an exemplary British education enriched by the extraordinary opportunities unique to our location. We are committed to academic excellence, personal growth and creativity, while fostering a deep connection to nature.
Our strong sense of community combined with small class sizes ensures that every child is truly seen, heard and valued. This nurturing environment instils a deep sense of belonging, empowering pupils to take risks, embrace challenges and push the boundaries of their learning.
Our curriculum blends the rigorous academic foundations of the British system, particularly in reading, writing and mathematics, with vibrant hands-on learning experiences across the arts, sciences, sports and humanities. From the Early Years through to Primary School, we emphasise outdoor learning, leveraging Bali’s rich environment to spark curiosity and foster a love for nature and environmental stewardship.
Every child at BSB is unique and we are dedicated to equipping them with the skills, mindset and character needed to thrive on whichever path they choose. Whether their aspirations lead them to prestigious global universities, scientific discoveries, athletic achievements, artistic endeavours or even global leadership, we are committed to laying an exceptional foundation for their journey.
Experience first-hand the quality, energy, enthusiasm and passion that distinguish The British School of Bali.

External examinations or assessments available
Early Years students (aged 2–5) are assessed against the UK Curriculum's Early Learning Goals, largely through observation of learning in progress.
Primary students (aged 5–11) are assessed using the standards of the English National Curriculum through continuous formative assessments by highly skilled teachers. As students advance, we incorporate externally benchmarked tests in core subjects—English, Reading, Mathematics, and Science—using GL Assessments, a highly regarded suite of age-appropriate physical and computer-based tests widely used by top-tier British schools.
We also make use of CAT4 assessments to benchmark and track the development of cognitive abilities as well as Pupil Attitude to Self and School (PASS) tests, which provide an insight into students' social-emotional learning, relationships and overall wellbeing.
Our future Secondary students (11-18 y.o. students) complete IGCSEs and A-levels in preparation for entry to the world's leading universities.
Results in these examinations
Schools Trust schools have extremely high academic standards and achieve exemplary student outcomes. 95% of students graduating from our global network of schools secure a place at their first choice of university / higher education institution.
Do teachers assign homework to their students?
A modest, age-appropriate quantity of homework is set. Homework for younger learners is fun, practical and game-based but some more structured homework is set as children enter the upper Primary years. Children are expected to complete reading at home, supported by adults or older siblings.
Approximate hours of homework given
This varies by age/class. Year 1 children of 5 years of age are generally set around 20 minutes a night comprised of reading, learning spelling words and times tables practice. Upper Primary students receive up to 40 minutes a night including reading, spelling and some more structured tasks; we anticipate offering a homework club where students can complete some of the non-reading and spelling-based homework.
Percentage of students who pursue further education post-graduation
95% of students graduating from our global network of schools secure a place at their first choice of university / higher education institution.
Dedicated staff/programs for students with special learning needs
We are generally inclusive, and our teachers are trained in SEND provision, but acknowledge that some special needs require specialist provision beyond the scope of a mainstream school. We handle this on a case by case basis. Owing to the richness of the skill-sets available here in Bali, we located a fully qualified, native-English-speaking SEND professional with experience in English-medium international schools; the professional in question is an expert in meeting various needs including ASD and is instructing our school on how to incorporate the principles of Universal Design for Learning into our classroom design and educational offer. While plan A remains to refer any students to her on a case by case basis, she has indicated a willingness to join our team; this excites us since we are keen to support the (often very high-achieving) individuals who have particular emotional or learning needs.
Learning support offered
To be confirmed.
The school supports gifted, able and talented students
Teachers plan challenging exercises and extension tasks as a matter of routine. Able, gifted and talented provision is highly developed in other Trust schools and BSB will match these standards, responding to the needs of our intake.
Student access to education psychologist
We conform to local legal requirements and a number of our Early Years and Primary staff are trained in guidance counselling. Owing to the richness of the skill-sets available here in Bali, we located a fully qualified, native-English-speaking psychologist with experience in tier-one British curriculum schools; this professional works in partnership with our school and should the need arise has indicated a willingness to join our team.
Entry evaluation for students
Yes, we evaluate new entries to the school. A blend of observation and age/level-appropriate formal assessment is used.
Brief description of entry evaluation required
We have clear benchmarks and standards but understand the need for flexibility in a new school situation.
Evaluation for Early Years students would typically involve teachers observing the child and interacting with them, playing educational games etc. as a means of understanding the level of their social, emotional, physical and language development.
Children entering Years 1 and 2 (5-7 y.o.), if appropriate, will additionally complete games and exercises to ascertain their level of phonics/reading, numeracy and writing.
Children who are developmentally ready, in Years 3-4 (7-9 y.o.) may be invited to complete some age-appropriate reading, writing mathematics testing.

Early Years | Ages 2-5
Our first school phase is the Early Years Foundation Stage, for children aged 2 - 5 years. Children in this phase learn best when they experience learning first hand, through meaningful interactions with others, physical activity and play.
We aim to provide children in Early Years with educational experiences that develop a positive approach to learning. By creating a learning environment where children feel at home, they will be more willing to explore new concepts and ideas. Self-discipline, a sense of responsibility, and respect for others are encouraged.
Primary School | Ages 5-11
Primary school is for children aged 5-11 years and is the first stage of formal education. Our curriculum is designed to provide fundamental skills in reading, writing and mathematics, and to establish a solid foundation for learning.
Our teachers strive to create an atmosphere that fosters enthusiasm for learning and promotes the personal development of each child. Pupils quickly learn the value of academic achievement, but they are also encouraged to take a broader view of success. Every member of the school, young or old, is expected to contribute to the welfare of the school community. Leadership and initiative are encouraged and celebrated.
