As a parent of both a son and a daughter, my experience with Sapporo International School (SIS) has been uniquely positive. When I first came to Japan in 2020 as an invited professor at Hokkaido University, I arrived alone and hesitated to bring my children, worried they might struggle to adapt from their home country’s education system to life in Japan.

After attending SIS events and speaking with friends whose children were already enrolled, I decided to bring my kids in 2021—a decision I have never regretted. I have been consistently impressed by SIS’s American-Islamic curriculum, which places strong emphasis on moral values, character development, and ethics, not just academic achievement, all within a warm, family-oriented environment.
Most importantly, the school addresses and corrects my children’s behavior in a highly professional manner; the teachers and principal are always friendly, supportive, and in constant communication with me as a parent.

My children genuinely love going to school. They are thriving both academically and morally and are even disappointed during weekly breaks. As a university educator myself, I recognize high-quality education when I see it. In fact, my ultimate “punishment” for misbehavior is jokingly threatening to transfer them to a Japanese public school 😁😁😁
