I used to be a student and while I found the academics strong and feel that the school prepared me well my experience with the student culture was considerably more negative. I left after sixth grade so I can only speak from my experience through that point. In the younger grades I didn't have many major complaints although I found the social environment quite cliquey and sometimes excluding. By middle school I felt that bullying exclusion and social pressure became more noticeable. I encountered inappropriate sexual material being shared in student group chats and sexual topics were discussed openly among students at a relatively young age. I also encountered many sexist racist and homophobic comments that were treated as jokes. I felt there was also a strong pressure to fit certain social expectations. Students could be teased for being academically focused or for choosing not to participate in certain social activities. In my experience there was pressure around things such as drinking vaping and romantic or sexual behavior and students who chose not to participate could sometimes feel socially excluded. I would not attribute mental health difficulties among students solely to the school since there are many factors involved. However I do feel that the social environment could make things more difficult for some students. That said there are strengths. The teachers were very invested in helping students succeed, the academics were strong and the campus is extraordinary My main concern was the student environment rather, than the education itself. Based on my own experience I would encourage prospective parents to consider the social culture carefully alongside the schools academic strengths.
