GNIS increases the amount of homework that it gives the children as they move through the school:
 GNIS expects Year 1 and 2 children to spend approximately one hour a week doing homework; this includes reading with a parent.
 GNIS expects children in years 3 and 4 to spend approximately 15–20 minutes per night on homework; this includes reading with a parent.
 GNIS expects children in years 5 and 6 to spend approximately 30 minutes per night on homework.
 Secondary students will have a variety of homework tasks to complete each night. General speaking, the time devoted to homework should range from 60 minutes and up for secondary. Student who fall behind on assignments are encouraged to discuss their situation with their classroom teacher.

Parents are advised to start the application process in March for the new school year. GNIS recommends that applications be submitted by mid-March. However, GNIS will continue to accept applications and seats will be assigned to qualified students based on seat availability.
