Dedicated staff/programs for students with special learning needs

Oaktree is an inclusive school, welcoming children with additional needs into the community and ensuring that they achieve their full potential.

The Learning Support Team welcomes children who have additional learning needs and develop individual plans to suit their requirements. For some, this will be a short-term plan to overcome a particular barrier, whilst for others there may be the need for ongoing support.

Learning support offered

Where children are identified, or have been assessed, as having an additional need, Oaktree's team will work with the child, their parents and any outside agencies involved to develop an Individual Education Plan (IEP). Speech and language and Occupational Therapy specialists will work with the children within the school and Oaktree will develop a network of external specialists and advisors to support the team as required.

Wherever possible, Oaktree will support children to achieve within the classroom.

The school supports gifted, able and talented students

Gifted and Talented students are equally valued at Oaktree and are given appropriate additional challenges to ensure that their unique talents are fully engaged and developed. A differentiated learning plan is created, extending each child in the classroom whilst mentors are assigned across groups of children with similar interests and abilities to enhance their learning. There are a wide range of competitions and events, which can be accessed in the UAE or on-line, to ensure that the talents of our children are celebrated.

Qualities and characteristics best defining the school

Oaktree is a community school where each child is valued as an individual and is encouraged to reach their full potential. In our rapidly changing world, Oaktree believes that teaching children how to think, to challenge and to overcome obstacles, are equally as important as teaching them facts.

Oaktree values every child. The school's community is a place where friends are made, amongst the students, the parents and the staff; a place where the teachers and leaders really get to know their students, what excites them and what challenges them; a place of laughter, fun and hard work; a place of tradition where children engage with each other and the world around them; where they understand the place for technology but have not lost the art of conversation.

Teaching approach of the school

Oaktree follows an enhanced British Curriculum with an overlay of the Ministry of Education’s curriculum for Arabic, Islamic and Social Studies, which develops an awareness and appreciation of Emirati and other world cultures as well as community and environmental responsibility.

Alongside the core primary subjects, Oaktree children learn important Life Skills:
- How to live a healthy and prosperous life
- How to accept responsibility
- How to be safe
- How to care for others
- How to take reasonable risks
