At AMADEUS International School Vienna, we are committed to providing an extensive education for our students. As an IB World School, the school delivers the full continuum of the International Baccalaureate programmes, ensuring that students move through each academic stage with curiosity, confidence and a global mindset.

While the school is well known for its vibrant music and arts offerings, its commitment to academic growth is equally strong. Students who step onto the AMADEUS campus quickly discover an environment that celebrates talents in all its forms. Whether performing on international stages or engaging in rigorous academic inquiry, learners are supported, challenged and encouraged to explore their full potential. This dedication is demonstrated through one of the school’s most distinctive initiatives: the High Performance Programme (HPP).

HIGH PERFORMANCE PROGRAMME

Launched following a year of reviewing students’ progress and aspirations, the High Performance Programme was created with one purpose in mind: to give highly motivated learners a pivotal platform to grow and excel.

The HPP is not a typical “gifted” programme. Instead, it is a dynamic platform where students engage in deeper thinking, exchange ideas, and take part in opportunities that extend beyond the classroom.

WHY IS IT UNIQUE

What sets the High Performance Programme apart is its holistic approach. Students not only strengthen their academic skills but also develop the confidence and perspective needed to engage with the world around them. Being a part of this programme allows students to take advantage of opportunities including:

Listening to Inspiring Guest Speakers
  • Compelling talks from industry professionals, such as Pierre Lafontaine, a sports leadership expert and Julian Rosenberger von Papstein– General Partner at Blue Forest Ventures, a Deep Tech Capital Fund in Berlin, London, and Vienna.

Educational Trips
  • Visits to universities, research centres, and cultural venues that expand knowledge, like an immersive trip to the Austrian Parliament.
  • Upcoming trips include visits to the Vista Science Centre in January and the United Nations Labs in March

Student Gatherings & Networking
  • Designed to motivate students towards collaboration, take initiative, and make connections with peers who have similar views.

Academic Competitions
  • Participation in competitions forms a key part of the HPP experience. This year, AMADEUS Vienna proudly hosted the IHBB History Bee and Bowl, where the youngest AMADEUS team, the Junior Varsity AMADEUS C, fought their way to first place. All teams and individual competitors qualified for the European Championships and the 2027 International History Olympiad, a testament to the school’s growing academic presence.

VOICES FROM THE PROGRAMME

As the person who laid the foundation for the HPP, Ms Karen Ball (Head of School) shared her optimism and strategic plan for its continued development: “The programme's early success shows what students can accomplish when they are supported and encouraged to take the lead in their learning”.

In addition, a member of the programme since the last academic year, Daniel Wakwima (G11), values the community aspect and support system that the HPP provides among “different students at different levels.” He acknowledges how helpful it is to ask his fellow classmates for help in subjects and to exchange ideas.

At AMADEUS Vienna, educational distinction exists to fulfil individual and collective goals. Teachers and staff ‘accompany’ students and guide them as they evolve. Students have the freedom to pave their own way while also being supported, challenged, and inspired by those around them. The High Performance Programme aims to carry on this mission. In its second year of running, the HPP hopes to further grow and develop in the coming years.
