Saint-Charles International School in Porrentruy may not have the same name recognition as Le Rosey, Beau Soleil or TASIS, but our experience there was excellent.
Both of my children attended Saint-Charles, and I can honestly say that they flourished there. They were not the strongest or most confident students when they arrived, but the school made a real difference. Because the classes are genuinely small, the teachers get to know the students very well and are able to support them closely, both academically and personally.
What stood out most to us was the quality of the teaching and the human atmosphere of the school. The teachers were very committed, approachable and encouraging, and there was a real sense that the students were seen as individuals rather than numbers. For children who need a more personal environment, this can be incredibly valuable.
The boarding experience was also very positive. It felt safe, caring and structured, while still helping the students become more independent. The school has a warm community feel, and for us this made a big difference.
Another practical advantage is the location. Porrentruy is peaceful and safe, but it is still well connected by train, with good access to Basel, Zurich and Lausanne.
Of course, every child is different and it is always important to visit schools in person, but based on our family’s experience, I would highly recommend Saint-Charles to parents looking for a Swiss boarding school with strong pastoral care, small classes and genuine individual attention.
