Building More Than Just Walls: Global Jaya School’s Partnership with Habitat for Humanity
At Global Jaya School, the IB Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) programme often takes students beyond the campus, but a recent project with Habitat for Humanity Indonesia has seen them take on a particularly hands-on role in their local community.
The initiative began in late 2024 with a clear financial target: raising Rp59,000,000 to fund the construction of a safe home for a family in need. The students came up with the idea of running a series of community-focused events to reach their goal. This included everything from bake sales and themed dress-up days to student-led competitions like "HopeSphere," a singing contest, and the "Pemoeda Cup" football tournament.
Once the group had reached their fundraising target, the students decided to also help with the physical construction of the house.

In December 2025, students joined the construction site to assist with the foundation work. And earlier this month, in January 2026, they returned to the site for the final painting stages.
These "build days" were a vital part of the learning experience, allowing the students to see how their planning and fundraising translated into a tangible structure. The project served as a practical exercise in leadership and teamwork, showing the group how collective effort can lead to a direct, positive impact on a family’s living conditions.

For the students, the experience was a reminder that service learning is at its most effective when it moves from theory into direct action.
