On Friday, January 23, students from Years 3–6 participated in a friendly soccer match with players from our local community. The match took place at Lapang Nahari Field, located less than two kilometers from Global Jaya School.
The purpose of the event was to celebrate and strengthen the growing relationship between Global Jaya and our surrounding community. For over a year, the Green School Committee has been supporting this local soccer field through various initiatives, including donating supplies, cleaning up the field and building a storage shed. During the friendly match, the committee continued its support by donating a lawn mower to help maintain the field.
Several Year 6 students—Byura Park, Rayyan Wiphasya, and Sherina Vania Kurniawan—played a key role in organizing a Soccer Shoe Drive to support community players. Together, they collected over 20 pairs of soccer shoes. With the support of parents Putri Yuanah and Tasya Nuarta, the group also secured a generous donation from Ortuseight, which contributed 22 additional pairs of shoes and three soccer balls. All donations were presented during the opening ceremony of the match.
Global Jaya’s Head of School, Pak Howard Mendan, delivered a speech highlighting the importance of building meaningful connections with the local community. He emphasized that events like this help move us from simply being neighbors to becoming true members of a shared community, built on cooperation and mutual respect.
The Under-10 and Under-12 matches were a great success. Despite the wet and muddy field conditions, the players showed enthusiasm, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the afternoon. In total, more than 100 students participated in the event.
This event would not have been possible without the support of many individuals and groups. A heartfelt thank you goes to Pak Howard, Ibu Lavesa, and Ibu Dewi for their leadership and encouragement; Year 6 students Byura, Sherina, and Rayyan for organizing the shoe drive; Ibu Putri Yuanah and Ibu Tasya Nuarta for securing sponsorships, helping organize the event, providing food, and making generous donations; Pak Nadzrul and Ibu Nadirah who were able to provide discounts on purchasing Ortus8 products and connecting us with Ortus8; Pak Rifat and Ibu Sissy for providing a tent; the Parents Association for supplying food; coaches Pak Casey and Pak Achmad for leading the matches; the PE department for equipment support; the GA team for transportation and setup; and the Green School Committee for their continued dedication to supporting this community soccer field.
Events like this remind us that learning extends beyond the classroom and that meaningful community connections can be built through shared experiences, teamwork, and service.
