Jacobo Olmedo
Head of School
Welcome to SEK International School Atlántico.
It is a pleasure to welcome you to our community, which over more than three decades has grown into one of Spain’s leading international schools and the only school in Galicia authorised to deliver the three International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes — PYP, MYP and Diploma. We have achieved outstanding academic results, including top IB marks and top rankings nationally and in Europe.
As we begin this school year, we are committed to quality education grounded in flexibility, responsibility, teamwork and collaborative learning. Our educational model prioritises internationalism, bilingualism, STEAM, 21st-century skills, technology, and personalised support, while also caring for the emotional wellbeing of every member of our community.
None of this would be possible without the dedication of our teaching and administrative teams, who place students at the centre of everything we do. We are deeply grateful for the trust that families place in us, and we are committed to supporting the full academic and personal development of each child.
To those families joining us and those considering our school, we invite you to connect with us and discover the unique educational experience that defines SEK Atlántico.
We have organised the information available for this school into 10 sections and 42 questions. Click or tap on the name of each section to read more.

Teaching approach of the school
|
The strategic areas and actions for the SEK schools, will focus on the agreed strategic areas in the Future Learning Model (FLM) , which was the result of a collaborative process involving people from across the SEK schools and the wider SEK community.
The overall aim of the Future Learning Model is to develop a unique and creative model of learning and teaching, that builds on our successful values, principles and practices, and is fit for purpose, not just in response to the pandemic, but for our long-term future.
The Future Learning Model is an approach and general framework for learning and teaching, that brings together eight key elements, which support a central focus on student and staff learning. These eight elements describe the learning and teaching that we value, and that we aim to develop across our schools. They form the basis for our strategic areas for development.
Our aims are:
• to make learning more personalised and self-directed
• to nurture student agency
• to ensure diversity in learning approaches, environments and spaces
• to leverage technology to support learning
• to nurture global citizenship and social innovation
• to support staff self-directed professional inquiries and micro-innovations that impact on student learning
