Do students practice religion at the school? What religion?
|
While we warmly welcome students from diverse backgrounds and faiths, our core values and principles are firmly rooted in the Catholic faith and the esteemed traditions of the De La Salle Brothers, spanning 345 years.
We take great pride in our Lasallian Catholic heritage, and we offer numerous enriching opportunities for Catholic children to explore and deepen their faith. Our school strongly emphasises the value of individuals and places significant importance on fostering meaningful relationships within our community.
|
How does the school accommodate non-religious students or students of a different religion?
|
Our community reflects a diversity that enables children to develop their beliefs and values.
In the Elementary School, Religious and Moral Education (RME) lessons enable children to explore the Catholic faith and major religions of the world, philosophies and traditions. Based on Lasallian Catholic values, the broad aim of the RME course is to engage and stimulate critical thinking about self and others. Starting with their families, children reflect on relationships and grow in gratitude and love towards all who contribute to their well-being. They reflect on a range of ethical and philosophical issues that confront young children in today’s world.
In the High School, Religious Education (RE) introduces students to a broader and more in-depth exploration of religion and ethics and how they contribute to holistic human development. Religious Education (RE) aims to help students develop and deepen their awareness of the world around them. RE encourages students to think critically and evaluate pertinent religious and moral issues. Through the study of different religions, morality and what it means to be Lasallian, RE aims to help the students begin to build for themselves a framework of values and guiding principles which will help them to grow and serve as citizens of the world.

Dedicated staff/programs for students with special learning needs
|
We are fully committed to providing a high-quality education for every student who attends our school. We believe that all students have an entitlement to a broad and balanced academic and enrichment curriculum that is both accessible and inclusive, and we recognise the strengths and contributions of every student to our dynamic learning programme.
Students learn at different rates, and many factors affect their achievement, including ability, emotional state, age, maturity, and learning style. Many students, at some time in their school career, may experience difficulties that affect their learning. The Learning Development Department is the primary support mechanism for students to face and overcome mild to moderate learning challenges.
The Department works in various ways, mainly through in-class support to promote inclusion. Needs are assessed through diagnostic testing and observation, and in some specific cases, individual support may be offered. Parents are involved in support processes for their children, particularly when advice is sought from external agencies.
|
Learning support offered
|
The Learning Support Team works in close collaboration with parents, classroom teachers, the pastoral team and outside professionals, if necessary, to identify how best to support all students on their learning journey.
Typically this involves a member of the Learning Support Team observing the student in the classroom, using a range of screening and assessment tools and conducting cognitive, academic and achievement tests to determine the correct level of support. If appropriate, our Learning Support Team will refer parents to seek further assessments with outside professionals such as an educational psychologist, pediatrician, speech and language therapist, or occupational therapist.
Please find more information on SJI International’s website regarding the Special Needs Support provided at our schools: https://www.sji-international.com.sg/school-life/student-wellbeing/elementary-school/learning-support
