Dedicated staff/programs for students with special learning needs

The Learning Enrichment (LE) department at King’s aims to enable all pupils to achieve their academic potential, regardless of their learning need.

Learning support offered

Specialist teachers in the department provide a range of support for pupils throughout the school, which may be on a short-term or long-term basis, depending on the level of need. Support is mostly delivered on a one-to-one basis and is tailored to meet the individual needs of the pupil, which may include supporting those with less conventional learning styles or helping pupils to develop more effective study skills. Pupils with a disability, diagnosed learning difficulty or condition such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, Attention deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, DHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), etc.) are also provided with specific support in developing strategies to overcome any barriers to their learning. One of the services KCS offers is providing private ASD assessments. An assessment provides greater detail into the unique characteristics of your child and offers specific recommendations based on this.

The LE department also places a strong focus on developing pupils’ self-esteem and confidence, while supporting them to develop more effective skills and strategies. Pupils are guided and encouraged to develop a greater sense of self-awareness in order to become successful independent learners who are more equipped to overcome any difficulties they may face in their learning – both in school and later in life.

The LE department also supports teaching staff to develop an understanding of various learning difficulties and how to differentiate for individual needs within the classroom – thereby ensuring that all pupils are given the best opportunities to achieve their potential.
