Qualities and characteristics best defining the school

LET International School is defined by its Humanistic and Investigative Learning Environment (HILE), a holistic educational model that places the learner at the center of the learning process. The programme focuses on developing critical thinking, independence, creativity, and intrinsic motivation, rather than rote learning or exam-driven instruction.

Inspired by Finnish and Scandinavian pedagogy, LET International School applies internationally recognised principles such as individualized learning plans, collaborative learning, strong teacher–student relationships, and a calm, respectful learning culture. These approaches, while proven highly effective in the Nordic countries, remain relatively rare within traditional Belgian school models.

A distinctive feature of the school is its integrated and flexible learning structure, combining blended online learning, physical classrooms, hands-on labs, and immersive summer schools. This combination is highly unusual in Belgium, the EU and the world, particularly within a long-term 2.5-year programme, and allows students to learn in varied, authentic, and real-life contexts.

LET International School also offers internationally recognised certification, including Edexcel examinations, ensuring that students graduate with qualifications that are transferable and valued globally. This is not a short-term course or isolated certificate, but a comprehensive and coherent curriculum designed for sustained academic and personal development.

The programme serves both Belgian and international students, offering flexibility for learners living outside Belgium through its blended and hybrid learning model. By integrating academic content, practical labs, summer programmes, and internationally recognised qualifications, LET International School provides a long-term, inclusive, and future-oriented education that prepares students to thrive in an ever-changing global society.

Teaching approach of the school

The teaching approach at LET International School is grounded in the Humanistic and Investigative Learning Environment (HILE), which views learning as an active, meaningful, and student-centered process. Teaching is designed to support the intellectual, social, and emotional development of each learner.

Teachers act primarily as facilitators, mentors, and learning designers rather than traditional instructors. They guide students through inquiry-based learning by encouraging questioning, exploration, reflection, and problem-solving. Lessons are structured around real-world themes and interdisciplinary projects that help students connect knowledge across subjects.

Instruction is differentiated and personalized through individualized learning plans, allowing students to progress at their own pace while being appropriately challenged. Continuous formative assessment, feedback, and self-reflection are emphasized over high-stakes testing, supporting deep understanding and long-term learning.

The teaching approach integrates blended learning, combining digital learning platforms with face-to-face instruction, hands-on laboratory work, and immersive summer schools. This flexible model supports diverse learning styles and enables students to learn both independently and collaboratively in varied learning environments.

Inspired by Finnish and Scandinavian pedagogy, the approach values trust, autonomy, collaboration, and well-being. A calm, respectful classroom culture and strong teacher–student relationships are seen as essential conditions for effective learning. Through this approach, students develop academic competence, critical thinking, creativity, and the skills needed to become responsible and engaged global citizens.
