Use of technology in the classroom

Pre-Prep:
Technology is introduced in an exploratory and creative way within the Early Years. As pupils progress into KS1, they use shared school iPads to develop early computing, STEAM and literacy skills through carefully selected, age-appropriate apps and tools. The focus is on fostering curiosity, problem solving and communication rather than prolonged screen use.

Alongside digital resources, pupils also engage with non-screen-based programmable devices such as mTinys, which enable them to explore sequencing, coding and cause-and-effect through hands on play. These experiences are embedded within the project based STEAM curriculum, where technology supports investigation, creativity and collaboration.

Teachers use digital platforms to capture and celebrate evidence of learning and technology is used flexibly to enhance and extend play-based experiences, rather than as a standalone daily lesson. Through this balanced and purposeful approach, pupils develop an early understanding of how technology can be used to explore, create and share their ideas with others.

Prep:
Pupils use individual iPads to access digital learning platforms, create multimedia projects and collaborate in class. The iPad mobile device management supports safe access to digital content and resources when in use. Technology is used by our pupils to research, design and create using technology responsibly and creatively through projects and interactive platforms that support digital literacy.  The use of iPads allows use of blended approaches to enhance teaching and learning. iPad use varies according to subject and activity, always with the intention of enhance learning outcomes, not replacing traditional approaches.  For example, in Computing pupils look at physical aspects of computing and communication through unplugged activities such as exploration of hardware, network connections, server rooms and real world implementations.

Senior School
Transition to using laptops which supports deeper use of digital fluency, research and extended project work. Digital tools and platforms are widely integrated to support adaptive learning and progress. Use also becomes more independent and aligns with subject-specific requirements such as programming, data analysis and collaborative academic writing.

Technology is embedded into teaching and learning across the College to develop creativity, collaboration and critical thinking skills. The College’s approach aims to ensure that our pupils gain confidence and digital fluency for future learning.
