If your child adapts easily to frequent changes in core subject teachers and a school day extending until 4 p.m., you may find BBS appealing. The school offers a relaxed atmosphere and a lively international community, though this comes with a notable lack of staff continuity and institutional loyalty.
The picture changes for students who need more structured or consistent support. Our experience was deeply disappointing. High staff turnover and a disengaged leadership team left our child without the stable, competent guidance they required. Conversations with other families confirmed that these problems are not isolated cases.
Instead of genuine collaboration, parent-teacher meetings often began with exhaustive lists of supposed shortcomings, delivered in a tone that felt judgmental rather than solution-oriented. The head of school appears dispirited, and the administration’s approach to struggling students relies heavily on outdated punitive measures. What the school describes as “opportunities for growth and reflection” frequently amounts to “Verwarnungen” or “Tadel” — sanctions that emphasize control over care.
A school’s true quality emerges when a child struggles. By that measure, BBS failed to provide the support our child needed. Since moving to a new school with a stable, committed teaching team, the behavioral issues that once dominated discussions have disappeared.
