Teaching approach of the school
|
Following the IB's philosophy and a student-centered approach, each student is valued and nurtured to develop their full potential through personalized enrichment programs.

Early Childhood and Elementary School
Marymount’s Early Childhood Center (from ages 2-5) offers a teaching program that implements a child-centered, play-based pedagogy that explicitly teaches international values. The curriculum reflects the latest research on early childhood personal, social and emotional development with input from leading experts and teachers and highlights an appreciation for children's home languages and cultural identities.
The Kindergarten and Grades 1-5 program combines core content areas, such as literacy, math, science, and social studies, with enrichment subjects like music, computer, art, drama, library, religion, physical education, information technology and philosophy classes providing students with a well-balanced, developmentally appropriate set of experiences that promote creative thinking, curiosity about learning, and develop global awareness.
Middle and High School
Students in Grades 6-8 follow a core curriculum that is focused on the development of a deep understanding in the areas of Language and Literature, Language Acquisition, Mathematics and Sciences, Individuals and Societies and the Arts. In addition, in Grades 9 through 12 students follow a program of studies that prepares them to meet the requirements of Marymount’s American High School Diploma as well as those for the successful achievement of the IB Diploma Programme and Advanced Placement Certificates. The curriculum also offers students a wide selection of elective courses from which to choose from according to their interests and passions. Embedded enrichment, service and wellbeing activities also enable our students to develop their knowledge and skills across subjects for a holistic academic development.
After School Activities
Students at Marymount participate in a variety of after-school activities, which provide opportunities to further exercise their intellectual, artistic, and athletic skills and help foster qualities of leadership, decision making, and teamwork. The school develops the activities on offer based on the interests and abilities of the students and employs faculty members and well-qualified teachers and coaches.
Our after-school activities program fosters:
• Spirit: playing for the love of the game, competing, fun and self-improvement.
• Balance: opportunities to pursue athletics & other passions.
• Character: development of responsibility through commitment and personal choices.
• Fair Play: fair and respectful conduct toward all participants and supporters.
• Community: dedication to developing responsible leaders and citizens in our communities.
Campus
Marymount is situated in northern Rome on 40 acres of protected parkland just 25 minutes north of the city center. Because the weather in Rome is generally temperate, students are able to take advantage of the school’s expansive grounds year-round, whether enjoying recess in the playgrounds, sports on the outdoor courts, lunch on the patio, or a study break on the lawn.
Classes take place in different academic buildings, including The Villa, Gailhac Hall, Butler Hall, St. Jean Hall, FabLab/IB Art Studio and the Forest School. These buildings also house administrative offices, science labs, libraries, dining room, coffee bar, and a Chapel.
