External examinations occur as follows:

At the end of Years 6 and 9 students sit the SATS exams (Standard Attainment Tests) in English Language, English Literature, Mathematics and Science.
At the end of Year 11 students sit the IGCSE (International General Certificate of Education) exams in, generally, nine subjects.
At the end of Year 12, students sit the AS level in English Literature, French and Spanish.
In Year 13 students sit the Cambridge Advanced or Proficiency exam, depending on their level. They also sit A levels in English Literature and Spanish. Those pupils who do French sit the B1 and B2 level DELF exam.

Interview and entrance exam.

A level of English language knowledge is required for entrance from Year One onwards.

Uniforms are required for all students up to Year 11 and can be purchased at "El Corte Inglés" in Madrid. Year 12 and 13 students are not required to wear the school uniform.

The English Montessori School is a private co-educational school which caters to the educational needs of students of the Spanish and International communities in Madrid.
The school is recognised by both the Spanish Ministry of Education and Culture as a foreign British centre and by Great Britain as a British School in Spain.

In addition to the high academic standards set by the school, students are expected to grow socially competent, emotionally sound, physically fit and ethically honest. The curriculum, plus the extra-curricular programme provides for growth in all of these areas.

The fundamental principles of the Montessori Philosophy are to:
