Native English speaking teachers

The vast majority of classroom teachers, including subject specialists, are British. Alice Smith also has teachers from Australia, New Zealand and Canada. All teachers hold a UK teaching qualification or an internationally recognised equivalent and all have at least two years experience teaching the English National curriculum in the UK or a leading British international school. The school also welcomes specialist language teachers from Malaysia. The teaching staff receive excellent support from an extensive team of administrative, maintenance and support staff.

The Alice Smith School offers a limited programme to teach students for whom English is an additional language. Entrance onto this language programme will also be considered on a case by case basis.

Brief description of entry evaluation required

Foundation Stage - ages 3 to 5: Your child will be assessed by observing interaction and language use in an informal situation in one of our classrooms.

Year 1 - age 5 to 6: Your child will attend an informal interview and be assessed on basic skills at the Alice Smith School.

Years 2 to 6 - ages 7 to 11: Your child will sit for online English, Mathematics and Non-Verbal Reasoning Tests.

Years 7 to 11 - ages 11 to 16: Your child will sit for online English (reading), Mathematics and Non-Verbal Reasoning Tests as well as sitting a short English writing test. Applicants who do not have English as their first language will also have a short interview with the EAL Coordinator or person assigned to assess whether their level of English is adequate to access the school curriculum or to access the limited support programme.

Years 12 and 13: Sixth Form Applicants to Year 12 or 13 will receive an offer conditional on their results in Year 11 GCSE or Year 12 AS exams.

School start time

At the Primary Campus school starts at 7.45 am, except for Pre-School and Reception who start at 8.30 am (soft drop-off at 7.45am).
The Secondary Campus starts at 8 am.

School finish time

At the Primary Campus school finishes at 2 pm, except for Pre-School and Reception who finish at noon and 2 pm respectively.
The Secondary Campus finishes at 2.40 pm.
