Qualities and characteristics best defining the school

The CAB is an independent, international school in Fontainebleau, France that was established in1972. The school has a pre-school (3-5 years old) and a primary school (6-11 years old).
At the CAB, students learn cultural diversity and tolerance. As an independent school, the CAB is entirely managed by the parents’ association.

The Centre Actif Bilingue attaches special importance to world openness and multiculturalism. Children of different nationalities and cultures attend the CAB and enrich the school’s everyday life with their various world experiences. When children with different native languages learn and play together, it not only expands their individual horizons, but also gives them the chance to learn a foreign language in a completely natural way. At the CAB the children learn a second language from the age of 2 and half which they practice daily in small groups and workshops.

Teaching approach of the school

The school follows the French National Education Curriculum but also uses active learning methods. The school's teaching team value that the children play an active role in the learning process. They take inspiration from different educational approaches like Montessori, Freinet, Decroly…

The CAB's aim is to develop the child in his or her totality, not only in the intellectual domain but also in the emotional, social, artistic and sporting realms. The development of community living is stimulated by collective projects and school camps, lasting a week from the age of five. Creative workshops, both manual and artistic, sport, music, and theatre facilitate a better perception of the body and its possibilities.
