Qualities and characteristics best defining the school

Founded by Edward Greene in 1967, Greene’s is Oxford’s oldest tutorial college and has seen approximately
15,000 international students pass through its doors.
Our individualised programmes are rooted in the tutorial system, a method of learning
synonymous with the University of Oxford. We have remained true to this educational
philosophy for decades, which allows us to design courses of individual tuition for all
students, regardless of their background.
In 2017, on the occasion of its 50th anniversary, Greene’s opened a sister College in
Portugal and became the first educational institution to bring the tutorial system to the
country.
Whether face-to-face, online or blended, students all over the world can benefit from the
highest-quality tuition, which has always been the hallmark of a Greene’s Oxford education.

Teaching approach of the school

Our Tutorial Method of learning comprises the principle of treating you as an individual and
cultivating your confidence, critical thinking, ability to work with others, effective oral and
written communication and independent learning skills.
In today’s world, information is more freely available and accessible than ever before and we
believe that our method, which focuses on the processing of concepts, ideas and knowledge
through discussion, is more relevant than ever.
Learning is not only about memorising, practising, and examinations. It is also about the ability
to reason, debate, and think independently – all attributes that need to be developed for future
success at university and in the workplace.
Often at school you are taught in a group then given homework to practise and consolidate what
you have learnt. In a tutorial environment you will first study independently by reading, problem
solving, working with your colleagues, working on projects, attending talks and completing
assignments. You should then expect to be challenged to think and discuss your work with your
Tutor.
“Teaching, learning and assessment are excellent and consistently high quality. Tutorials have a
coherent structure and are used very effectively to meet individual needs; consequently, students learn well
and make very good progress.” ISI INSPECTION REPORT NOVEMBER 2019
